Ups and Downs

Thank you to all the people who have sent me emails about the article in Runner’s World. I appreciate all the feedback and I’m trying to get back to everyone. I got some great suggestions regarding sleep and anxiety management and have been trying to implement them into my life. Doing the story has made me realize that while I have come a long way I am still a work in progress. My biggest goals right now are to be a little less hard on myself and focus on enjoying the amazing people and opportunities I have in my life.
Things were going quite well. I had a huge breakthrough the other night and slept for 10!!!!!! hours. In ONE NIGHT! That hasn’t happened in years. I woke up and felt giddy. On my run I felt invincible and my mile repeats were over 10 seconds per mile faster than my best. It seemed a little odd after running a marathon and taking time off, but I’m not going to complain! The whole day was fantastic and I felt like I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. It’s amazing what a difference sleep can make!
Unfortunatley, yesterday was not so great. I had a really long tough day with work. Things kept going wrong and I kept making mistakes because I was have trouble focusing. I was TIRED and CRABBY and found myself slipping back into my old patterns. I started to feel sorry for myself. Then frustrated for feeling sorry for myself. But Instead of completely falling into that negativity trap I stopped and took a deep breath (one of the suggestions from a reader). I realized that a “tough” day in the life of Tera Moody really isn’t so bad! I’m going to make mistakes sometimes and need to put them behind me and focus on positive things ahead.
I woke up this morning hoping to carry that attitude into today. Normally when I run I will either be on the treadmill reading a book, running and chatting with a friend, or listening to podcasts on my Ipod. Today I went with no distractions. I saw a beautiful sunrise and ran into about 25 deer throughout the course of my trail run (they were everywhere!). It was really refreshing and a great way to start the day.
I hope you have a great weekend and take time to enjoy it. I’m heading to Chicago soon to help my dad celebrate a big birthday and I can’t wait.
Tera

I just saw the note about the half marathon in Fort Collins. I ran it as part of my last really long run before Chicago. It was an awesome course and I lucked out and had someone to run with for the first 9 miles. I ran faster and felt much better than expected and met some great people. It helped solidify my decision to head to Chicago in a couple weeks.
