Benita Johnson has long been a fan favorite at the Freihofer’s Run for Women. The Australian Olympian dominated Freihofer’s from 2006-2008, and has been a champion of the FRW School Visitation Program, which brings elite athletes to local schools to help inspire and motivate children.

The AIR Foundation: Activity Inspired Rehabilitation

This Saturday I’m heading up to the Denver Rescue Mission Harvest Farm Facility near Fort Collins. It will begin my involvement with The AIR Foundation and I’m really excited! The Air Foundation helps recovering addicts by training them for endurance events. I heard about them at the RACE convention and knew immediately it was something I wanted to be a part of.

Training Advice

I’ve been getting some e-mails lately asking for training advice. Unfortunately I don’t think I have been much help. I really believe everyone is different and you have to find out what works for you personally. I would suggest recording everything you do so you can look back after some races and find things that helped and maybe others that you can take out. I also believe that even if you find something that works once it doesn’t mean it will work again….so don’t be afraid to change things up a little.

Winter Training for Runners

With cold weather upon us and winter around the corner, we thought we’d get a jump on preparations for cold-weather running.
To start with, remember that running is a year-round sport. It’s not something that one has to take indoors the moment a chill is felt. In fact, learning to run outside in the cold — and sometimes snow — can give you a some training advantages that others might not experience by simply running indoors.

Your Journey

Or do you?
As a runner, I often come across people who hear of my running this distance, or that distance, who immediately say, “I could never do that.” To which I automatically respond, “Of course you could!”

It’s November!

I can’t believe its already november! This year has gone by so fast. Actually time in general has gone by pretty fast…..Last night was my 10 year high school reunion. It was really interesting to see my classmates and hear about what’s been going on in their lives.

NYC Marathon Recap

Congratulations to Meb Keflezighi of the U.S. and Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia for their 1st place finishes at the NYC Marathon yesterday. Tulu beat out favorite Paula Radcliffe — the two-time defending champion and three-time winner — to post a victory in 2:28:52.
