A little while ago, Tera blogged about her love for the treadmill. I’m right with you, Tera! While I’m anticipating the upcoming warmer and perhaps drier months (the rain is pounding on my window right now), the treadmill is suiting me just fine. One thing about the treadmill that I love is that it tells me how many mph I am running and how long I have been working on an interval without checking my watch every ten seconds. I don’t have many fancy running gadgets- just the information given to me on old faithful, Treadmill.

Pictures from 1979

Posted by Lisbeth Calandrino | January 28, 2010 | No Comments

I remember running the Run for Life in 1979, and recently came across these pictures I kept from them. The first one, below, is me running in the race. I loved the feeling of it. When I did the race in 79 it was all pretty new. I’ve always been amazed at the durability of the body, it’s amazing. The body just needs to be pushed. By running I felt powerful and certainly not old. I will be 69 this year and it really doesn’t seem to matter.

The Beginning

Posted by Amanda Wright | January 25, 2010 | 5 Comments

When you are 276 lbs you don’t run. You hope and pray that you are never put in a position that you even have to think about running. So for me to say that I am a runner blows my mind to this day. Let me back track…

Getting in the Groove

Posted by Sarah Herman | January 22, 2010 | 6 Comments

I usually watched from the sidelines, admiring everyone’s willpower to run. It just always seemed so hard for me. When I participated in track and field in high school, we were just told to run for warm-ups, but never how to begin. And who wants to admit, “Hey, I don’t know how to run!” So, I’ve kept my mouth shut. Until now.

Sixth Place and a PR in Houston

Posted by Tera Moody | January 18, 2010 | 2 Comments

Yesterday I raced in Houston at the USATF Half Marathon Championships. Two nights before the race Elva Dryer gave a talk about a new Jenny Crain mentorship program that USATF is starting. Jenny Crain is an amazing runner who was training for the olympic trials when she got hit by a car a couple of years ago. She is slowly working towards just being able to do normal daily activities and it will likely be a long road ahead for her. Elva stressed to not take for granted that we are ABLE to run and to really enjoy it.

Erkesso Wins Houston Marathon

Posted by Editor | January 17, 2010 | No Comments

Congrats to Freihofer’s defending champ Teyba Erkesso for winning the Chevron Houston Marathon earlier today.

Erkesso successfully defended her championship and broke the women’s course record she set last year, running a 2:23:53 to win her race by nearly five minutes over Margarita Plaksina of Russia. She takes home $10,000. Well done!

I Love the Treadmill

Posted by Tera Moody | January 8, 2010 | 1 Comment

A lot of people seem to dislike running on a treadmill. I’m not one of them. I tend to run 30-40 percent of my weekly mileage inside regardless of the weather. In the winter that sometimes increases to 50% if its really rough out.

A New Year with New Goals

Posted by Editor | January 5, 2010 | No Comments

A friend sent an e-mail around recently wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Instead of asking everyone what their New Year’s Resolutions were, however, she asked us to instead make a list of everything we accomplished in 2009. I thought it was a great exercise, mainly because we often get stuck on looking ahead rather than taking the time to look at where we’ve been and how far we’ve come.
