Back in Colorado

The trip was a huge success. It was so much fun spening time with my friends! Wedding dress shopping turned out to be a little harder than expected. I’m still wearing a tall boot and couldn’t put weight on my left foot so Anna had to help me a lot. But I managed to try on several dresses and figured out the style/material that I want to go with.

Running is a Group Sport

When my alarm went off at 7:45 on Saturday morning, all I wanted to do was hit the snooze button. Okay, I hit it once. But I got out of bed at 7:50 because I had somewhere important to be. A good friend needed me to run with her.

I’m so excited!
Posted by Tera Moody | March 20, 2011 | No Comments
I am so excited! This week I’m off to see the foot surgeon for a check up with a detour in Minneapolis to visit my best friend. Normally trips like this aren’t really an option. Work, training, and racing can get a little intense and often leave little time for other activities. So while I would love to be able to run right now I’m thankful for a “vacation”. I know Minneapolis in March might not be the most typical spring break destination but nothing beats hanging out with Anna. We met in college while rooming together on track trips (she’s an amazing high jumper!) I’ve never been to the city and I’m really looking forward to checking it out. We may even do a little wedding dress shopping
Things with the foot seem to be going well. I got the pin out and im making my transition out of crutches (YES!) Biking is actually starting to grow on me and I look forward to hitting the gym each day. Overall I am doing much better than I expected. I have no pain and have remained upbeat and positive so far.

Jennifer Gish: Running is a Mental War
Posted by Jennifer Gish | March 17, 2011 | Comments Off
At least that’s what I’m learning on the treadmill these days.
This week, I tried my first tempo run, alternating between my goal race pace and a slower pace. I was supposed to do three minutes at race pace five times. I churned through the first couple race-pace segments without much problem, but then, over the sound of “Hollaback Girl” in my headphones, was my own voice, saying I’d never make it through three more. “You’re not a runner,” I told myself. “You’re not athletic and will never manage an 8-minute mile.” I remembered the awkward way I’d always flub the set during volleyball in high school gym class and how I never learned to do a cartwheel.

Kelly Lynch: I’m Torn

Part of me wants to wait for our official start date to begin training with my team, so we are all starting off on this adventure together. It will be a great experience to celebrate the victory of crossing the finish line after starting from ground zero as a group.

Ann Hughes: Freihofer’s Run Training Challenge
Posted by Ann Hughes | March 15, 2011 | 1 Comment
What’s the hardest thing about going for a training run? The first step! It’s a mental one. Making the decision to walk, jog or run…finding the time…getting the clothes on…and then actually hitting the sidewalk, road or treadmill.
I’m just back from a family vacation, so I haven’t run for 5 days. 5 days! I’m feeling blobby and quite comfortable sitting on my couch. Motivation is nowhere to be found. Ah, but then I see a little sun outside, and I announce I’m going for a run. My husband gives me a quizzical look when I ask how far down the road a mile and a half is. Yes, I tell him, I’m abandoning the treadmill and actually taking this one outside.

Post-Operation Thoughts
Posted by Tera Moody | March 12, 2011 | 1 Comment
The operation was a little bit tougher than I thought. Everyone warned me how painful bunion surgery is but I pretty much shrugged it off. The Dr explained that the 2nd toe would probably be even worse but I THOUGHT I had a high pain tolerance and figured there was no way it could hurt any more than it did in Houston.
I don’t remember much from right after the procedure but apparently I woke up crying and going on about how much my foot hurt. Not my proudest moment I’m sure.

PRs and Injuries
Posted by Tera Moody | March 2, 2011 | 1 Comment
Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since I wrote a Freihofer’s Run blog and a lot has happened in the last several months. I’ve experienced quite a rollercoaster of ups and downs as I struggled with my first major injuries, ran some big PRs, and recently underwent two major foot surgeries.
