Ann Hughes: Confession

Posted by Ann Hughes | April 25, 2011 | 4 Comments

Confession: I haven’t run since last Monday. I do a cycling class on Monday mornings, then the Freihofer’s Training Challenge on Monday night, then a circuit training class on Tuesday morning…and wow I was sore on Wednesday. And Thursday. And by Friday my Easter cooking was in full swing. I don’t think I left the kitchen on Saturday, and Sunday was all about eating. Now I’m stuffed, tired and in need of a good run today at the Training Challenge.

I’m having couch dreams

Posted by Carol Ann Tiberia | April 21, 2011 | No Comments

Actually I never really spent that much time on the couch. But the commands of each day right now are almost overwhelming and I’ve had moments wanting to return to my old routine, which could be considered difficult to others in different ways. The effort to maintain this commitment and continue to push oneself beyond [...]

Failure Is Not an Option

Posted by Sandra Foyt | April 19, 2011 | Comments Off

Getting up at the crack of dawn to run is not getting easier, but then I never expected that any of this would be easy.

When I signed up for Team Gish, it wasn’t just to train to run. Sure, I’m out of shape and need all the help I can get to be able to finish the 5K at a respectable pace. But, what I really wanted to get out of the experience was to transform my nocturnal self into an early to bed, early to rise kind of woman.
I have tried to do this on my own, but it’s difficult to do when you’re writing into the early morning hours. In the fall, when my teen started high school, I saw her off at 6:30 a.m. – twice. By the third day, I was snoring while she was getting on the bus.

Motivation

Posted by Tera Moody | April 12, 2011 | 1 Comment

I didn’t write a blog last week and my gym sessions were shorter and nothing to write home about. After I learned that my grandma had passed away I just didn’t have much motivation for anything.

My grandma was an amazing woman and we were really close. I always looked forward to our conversations and learned a lot from her over the years. Her value of hard work and independence made a big impression on me early on and continue to inspire me today.
At the age of 89 she was still living in her own home after losing my grandfather several years ago. She was a college graduate and ran a successful antique store for several years. I often joked that she knew more about computers than I ever will especially after she used hers to track the genealogy of her family back to the 1600s. She taught me to knit and jump started my collection of antique aprons which has reached close to a thousand now.

Getting Over Myself

Posted by Sandra Foyt | April 11, 2011 | Comments Off

The first day of training, I had something to prove. Ignoring the dark and freezing rain on that first Monday morning, I hauled myself to the Crossings Park just to prove the naysayers wrong.

My family laughed when I said that I was signing up to run at 6 a.m. with Team Gish in the Couch to 5K training program for the Freihofer’s Run for Women. The kids claimed to have faith in me, but only because they were betting on me against their dad.
