The Race is in Sight!

The race is in sight!

Happy June, everyone! The race is just days away and I’m trying to get myself mentally ready for it. In actuality, I think I’m psyching myself out. I’m so nervous!!!!!!! (I can’t put enough exclamation marks there.)

Running Outside

Posted by Sarah Herman | April 1, 2010 | 2 Comments

The weather warmed up quite a bit for a while, didn’t it? I decided to take advantage of the wonderful weather and try running outside. I have to admit, I was very nervous, but once I got going, I loved it! The scenery changes, the air is so fresh (unlike that oh-so-delightful gym aroma I had become so accustomed to), and I got to experience terrain!

I’ve dealt with injuries before; a rolled or twisted ankle seems to be my specialty. This time, stress got the best of me, resulting in one of the oddest injuries I’ve ever had…

My New Running Buddy

Posted by Sarah Herman | February 20, 2010 | 4 Comments

These past couple weeks have been so hectic because I started student teaching, but running has served as a great stress reliever. I used to have so many thoughts going through my mind when I was running, but now it’s almost like a quite focused state that I enter as I run. I focus on my breathing, my steps, my pace; the numbers fall away and I don’t notice the time any more. It’s so wonderful. I know this is something I will be doing for the rest of my life now.

The Couch to 5K program advises you to go at your own pace, so if you need to slow down or speed up, you should so what you feel works best. I’ve been running for longer intervals of time without a problem now and it feels great. At this rate, I’m positive I’ll have a great experience running the FWR, and that’s a really nice thing to feel since I’m just a beginner.

Newest (Random) Developments

A little while ago, Tera blogged about her love for the treadmill. I’m right with you, Tera! While I’m anticipating the upcoming warmer and perhaps drier months (the rain is pounding on my window right now), the treadmill is suiting me just fine. One thing about the treadmill that I love is that it tells me how many mph I am running and how long I have been working on an interval without checking my watch every ten seconds. I don’t have many fancy running gadgets- just the information given to me on old faithful, Treadmill.

Getting in the Groove

Posted by Sarah Herman | January 22, 2010 | 6 Comments

I usually watched from the sidelines, admiring everyone’s willpower to run. It just always seemed so hard for me. When I participated in track and field in high school, we were just told to run for warm-ups, but never how to begin. And who wants to admit, “Hey, I don’t know how to run!” So, I’ve kept my mouth shut. Until now.
