Chicago Marathon Recap Video

A nice video recapping the Chicago Marathon. Turns out men’s winner Sammy Wanjiru didn’t know he was on track to break the course record, which is why many supporters probably cringed when he began waving to the crowd the last few seconds, clearly unaware it may be slowing him down. He ended up breaking the record by two seconds.

What a Day…

I really didn’t know what to expect going into the marathon. I have never run marathons only 7 weeks apart and I knew it was a gamble. I will probably not do it again because it was very challenging. But I’m really happy I did it this time and that it worked out very well for me.

Thoughts Before Chicago

My first marathon was Chicago in 2005. I knew that after a frustrating college career I needed a change of pace. Since I love long runs and have a goal of completing an Ironman someday I figured the marathon was the next logical step. A friend of mine was getting into longer distances and having success and I asked him for advice, but for the most part my training involved throwing darts at the wall and hoping it would all come together. I didn’t have a coach or a structured training plan but I did have a lot of passion. My goal was to break three hours and I was pretty nervous and didn’t know what to expect.
